What if you don't want to be a new person?

The Pressure

January comes with this unspoken mandate: reinvent yourself. New habits. New body. New mindset. New you.

But what if you don't want to be new? What if you just want to be less fucking tired?

That's Allowed

Not every year needs to be a transformation. Sometimes the goal is just survival with slightly less cortisol.

You don't need a vision board. You don't need to optimise anything. You don't need to become unrecognisable to yourself by March.

What You Might Actually Want

To sleep better. To feel less anxious. To stop snapping at your partner over small things. To have one morning a week where you're not already behind.

Those aren't sexy goals. They won't make good content. But they're real, and they matter more than a disciplined morning routine you'll abandon by February.

Reframe "Better"

Better doesn't have to mean more. Sometimes better is less - less overwhelm, less pressure, less performance.

Sometimes, better is just: I didn't abandon myself this year trying to become someone else.

The Real Resolution

If you want to set an intention for this year, make it this: I'm going to be kinder to the person I already am.

That's enough.

You're just avoiding it. Why We Avoid Avoidance feels like protection. If you don't bring it up, you don't have to deal with the discomfort. If you don't set the boundary, you don't risk the conflict. But avoidance doesn'...
Your relationship needs boredom
The Pressure There's this idea that good relationships require constant work. Date nights. Deep conversations. Intentional quality time. Growth and evolution, and never getting complacent. It's exhausting. What You Actually Need Sometimes your relationship just needs to be boring. Sitting on the couch in silence. Parallel play where you're both on your phones. Making dinner without it being a...
Why talking about it doesn't always fix it
The Myth You've been told that communication is the answer. Just talk it out. Be honest. Use "I" statements. So you try. And it goes nowhere. Or worse - it escalates. What's Actually Happening When your nervous system is activated, the part of your brain that does rational communication goes offline. You're in fight, flight, or freeze mode. Your partner might be too. You can't think your way ou...
