The gap between how it looks and how it feels

What You're Seeing

Perfect tables. Matching outfits. Everyone smiling. The caption says "blessed" or "grateful" or "making memories."

What You're Not Seeing

The fight that happened an hour before. The crying in the bathroom. The third glass of wine that's actually about coping. The loneliness of being surrounded by people who don't really see you.

The Truth

Social media is a highlight reel. You know this. But when you're struggling, everyone else's curated joy feels like proof that you're the only one who's not okay.

You're not.

What's Actually Happening

Someone else is looking at your photo, thinking the same thing. Half the people posting are also barely holding it together. The performance of happiness doesn't mean the happiness is real.

What You Need to Hear

Your messy, complicated, hard reality is valid. You don't have to post about it. You don't have to pretend it's not happening. You just have to get through it.

The gap between how it looks and how it feels is where most of us live this time of year.

You're not alone in it.

If you don't set the boundary, you don't risk the conflict. But avoidance doesn'...
Your relationship needs boredom
The Pressure There's this idea that good relationships require constant work. Date nights. Deep conversations. Intentional quality time. Growth and evolution, and never getting complacent. It's exhausting. What You Actually Need Sometimes your relationship just needs to be boring. Sitting on the couch in silence. Parallel play where you're both on your phones. Making dinner without it being a...
Why talking about it doesn't always fix it
The Myth You've been told that communication is the answer. Just talk it out. Be honest. Use "I" statements. So you try. And it goes nowhere. Or worse - it escalates. What's Actually Happening When your nervous system is activated, the part of your brain that does rational communication goes offline. You're in fight, flight, or freeze mode. Your partner might be too. You can't think your way ou...
